When choosing a lift kit for your Dodge Ram there are some things you will have to think about before you make your purchase. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind before you bu.
1. Identify lift size
First thing you want to do or figure out, is how much you actually want to raise your truck. So to figure this measurement out, an easy way to accomplish it is by parking on even ground and measure your stock height.
Measure from the ground all the way to your fender.
This will give you an idea of your ride height, and if it will tell you if you have a difference of height from the front and back. Usually the fronts are lower since, all the weight is in the front.
2. Leveling kits vs Lift kits
The difference between lift kits and leveling kits aren't a huge difference. To explain it lets use an example.
So say when you measure your truck height with the instructions from step 1 there, and you find your back and front aren't level or the same height. You can go and purchase a leveling kit for the your truck that fixes that.
So say if you front was an inch and a half lower than your rear. You would order yourself a one and a half inch leveling kit.
With a lift kit, you get an all around lift, so this would raise your truck up to whatever size lift kit you decide on getting.
3. Upgrading shocks or staying factory
A good idea and it is my recommendation is, when lifting or leveling upgrade your shocks as well. Lifting a truck takes a toll on your suspension parts and gives it a rougher ride quality.
If you want to be comfortable and not bouncing up and down, upgrading your shocks to a set that is meant for lifts if a great idea.
You can get away with factory stocks for a short period especially if your truck is newer, but upgrade if you have an older Ram.
Conclusion
So if you plan on lifting your truck make sure to follow all these steps just to ensure you have thought about everything.
Also depending on where you are from, if you plan on lifting your truck and installing bigger rims and tires, make sure to pick up a set of fender flares, so you dont get any tickets.
